2007-2008 ANNUAL THEME

RENOVATUS

Renovatus (pronounced “Renovate Us”) is part of our “Renovation” theme for NPC YOUTH this year.  If you wanted to know how we came up with this theme, you could start with the project to renovate the fellowship hall, but that might be a bit premature.  The real reason we’ve selected Renovation as our annual theme is that we want something better. We want renewal.  We want to be restored.  We want to be revived.

Ask us about our faith and we want to be able to tell you that we are “walking the walk”, not just “talking a good game” or struggling (through our effort) to be like Jesus.  Our hope and intention is to invite God into the core of who we are so that God can do God’s transforming work there.

There’s a great quote from the movie The Matrix where Morpheus tells his young friend Neo, “Sooner or later you’re going to realize just as I did that there’s a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.”  We know the path.  Now we want to walk the path that Jesus is asking us to walk; and not just through our own effort.

As scripture teaches us, we can clean up the outside, but if the inside is still dirty, the whole cup is dirty.  We all know that what’s on the inside eventually shows up on the outside. So this year, we’re going to change our focus from doing to being.  We’re going to take a look at our hearts—our values, beliefs, feelings, habits and intentions—and we’ll join God in the work to renovate our hearts.
